During the reign of the Second King, tea was grown within the grounds of Samcholing Palace. In the early 2000s, this historic tea found new life beyond the palace walls, embraced and cultivated by the local community.

Since 2004, the tea estate has been cared for by women farmers from Samcholing, providing them with a meaningful source of income, pride, and connection to their heritage. Today, Samcholing tea continues to carry a piece of Bhutan’s history in every cup.

Together with the Trongsa Dzongkhag Administration, we are supporting the Samcholing community to diversify their livelihoods and strengthen the opportunities created through their tea enterprise.

Through this project, we hope to empower the Samcholing community and help preserve and carry forward the enduring legacy of Samcholing tea for generations to come.
