Every child deserves the chance to learn in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Yet for many children with diverse abilities, access to appropriate learning spaces and specialized support remains a challenge. At Tendruk Central School, teachers, parents, and the community have spent years working tirelessly to change that reality.
Over time, the school has become an important center of support for children with special educational needs (SEN), welcoming a growing number of students from surrounding communities. Despite limited infrastructure and resources, the school and community have continued to create opportunities for children to learn and thrive. This includes supporting accommodation near the school for children and families, as well as establishing an inclusive kitchen where students can develop essential daily living skills alongside their education.

Building on these ongoing efforts, the Bhutan Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), officially launched the construction of a new accessible and inclusive facility at Tendruk Central School on 10 May 2026. The initiative will support the construction of six additional SEN classrooms, along with the provision of learning resources and teacher capacity building to strengthen services for children with diverse abilities.
The launch program was graced by Dasho Dzongrab and attended by officials from Samtse Dzongkhag, representatives from the Bhutan Foundation, the ECCD & SEN Division, teachers, students and parents.
For the school community, the new facility represents more than just additional classrooms. It is a step toward dignity, belonging, and improved opportunities for children who often require tailored support to learn effectively.
“We have been facing a shortage of classrooms as the number of SEN students continues to grow. Multiple groups of students have been learning together in the same classroom, and some children need quiet and calm spaces to learn better. With these 6 new classrooms, we hope to provide a better learning environment and stronger support for all our children,” shared Tara Devi Giri, SEN coordinator, Tendruk Central School.

Teachers at the school have also been actively reaching out to children in their homes and communities to encourage enrollment and ensure that no child is left behind. While significant progress has been made in bringing children into the education system, the new initiative will further strengthen the school’s ability to provide quality, inclusive, and accessible learning support.
Through partnerships like this, the Bhutan Foundation remains committed to expanding opportunities for children with diverse abilities and supporting schools and communities working to build a more inclusive Bhutan, where every child is valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
