While on their study tour last month, a group of farmers from Marangdut in Pangbang visited the Dungsam Seed Bank in Dewathang. The farmers learned how to prepare their own seeds and preserve them for the next season.

To prevent loss of crop diversity and address seasonal shortage of seeds, they were encouraged to create their own seed bank to maintain diversified vegetable and cereal seeds for the community. These banks not only would help preserve seeds for the next season, but would also help the Marangdut community ensure food security in the long run!

Our partner CSO The Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative (SJI) initiated this event under the organic agriculture program. Special thanks to SJI for sharing good practices and your experiences with an enthusiastic group of farmers from Marangdut!
