As part of the government’s COVID-19 containment measures, the Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL), a state-owned enterprise, was mandated to ensure the availability, affordability, and accessibility of quality food and essential commodities in the country. During the national lockdown, FCBL had the responsibility to facilitate home-delivery services of critical food items.

To effectively carry out these emergency activities across, the Bhutan Foundation supported FCBL in engaging 50 additional youths, who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, to assist FCBL in distributing food for three months. In addition to engagement and pay assistance, the Foundation is also supplying tents, sleeping bags, camping mattresses, thermometers, and hand sanitizers to workers so that the lockdown response teams can efficiently provide services while staying safely away from their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Check out these first-hand testimonials from some of those workers on the ground!
