Today, under the wise leadership of Her Majesty Gyalyum Tseyring Pem Wangchuck, co-chair of the Bhutan Foundation, we are happy to sign a project agreement with the Chithuen Phendhey Association (CPA) to support  ‘Drugs and Alcohol Awareness and Prevention Campaign’ throughout Bhutan.

Like elsewhere in the world, the impact of drugs and alcohol abuse continues to be a major contributor to various risks in the country, especially individual health and societal problems. However, this can be prevented with dedicated and creative efforts to enhance knowledge, attitude and behaviors of young people, parents & caregivers and service providers on ill effects of drugs and alcohol use and abuse.

The campaign has four main components such as using newspapers, television & social media, work place awareness & education, cycling excursion and awareness along major highways in Bhutan.  The core mandate of the advocacy and awareness will be to spread valuable information on the ill effects of drugs & alcohol abuse, to enhance drug or alcohol prevention awareness & skills among parents, teachers and youth, and to sensitize drivers on narcotic law and policy to prevent illegal transition of prohibited substances in the country.

The launch of the campaign will be officially graced by Her Majesty Gyalyum Tseyring Pem Wangchuck on April 14, 2017, at the Clock Tower in Thimphu. We wish the CPA team all the best of luck in their campaign.

About the organization: The Chithuen Phendhey Association is a registered civil society organization under the royal patronage of His Majesty the King, with a primary mandate to address drug and alcohol addiction issues among young people.
