Mass Dog Sterlization and Vaccination Campaign Initiated by the National Center for Animal Health, Department of Livestock

Thimphu municipality and peri-urban areas alone have approximately 13,000 dogs and about 6,000 free-roaming dogs with other cities and towns experiencing similar large populations. In an effort to address this issue, we are pleased to take part in the Government’s initiative to launch a mass dog sterilization and vaccination campaign. This program will work to sterilize 4,000 dogs this year and aims to increase the adoption rate from the current 30% to 70%.

Initiated by the National Center for Animal Health, Department of Livestock, this campaign contributes to a greater project to engage the community and change human behavior to better manage the dog population in two districts in Bhutan. It’s the goal of the initiative for our canine friends to have better homes and responsible owners.
