International Partners

At the Bhutan Foundation, we believe collaboration drives lasting change. Our work is strengthened by partnerships with US and international organizations —bringing expertise, innovation, and resources to Bhutan. Together, we amplify impact across health, education, environmental conservation, cultural preservation, good governance, and sustainable livelihoods.

The Explorer's Club

The Explorers Club – St. Louis Chapter is part of the global Explorers Club network, an international society founded in 1904 to advance field research, scientific exploration, and the conservation of natural and cultural resources. Established in 1988, the St. Louis Chapter serves members across Missouri and the surrounding region, bringing together scientists, researchers, adventurers, and conservationists who share a commitment to discovery and knowledge.

The Chapter hosts regular lectures, educational programs, and field experiences that highlight groundbreaking work across disciplines—from archaeology and ecology to geology, wildlife science, and space exploration. Through its active community and public-facing programs, the St. Louis Chapter fosters curiosity, supports emerging explorers, and promotes a deeper understanding of our planet.

As a partner, the Explorers Club – St. Louis Chapter strengthens collaborative opportunities that inspire inquiry, support research, and celebrate the spirit of exploration.

The GEF Small Grants Program

The GEF Small Grants Programme was established in 1992, the year of the Rio Earth Summit. It embodies the very essence of sustainable development by “thinking globally acting locally”. By providing financial and technical support to projects that conserve and restore the environment while enhancing people’s well-being and livelihoods, SGP demonstrates that community action can maintain the fine balance between human needs and environmental imperatives.

SGP recognizes that environmental degradation such as the destruction of ecosystems and the species that depend upon them, increasing levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, pollution of international waters, land degradation, and the spread of persistent organic pollutants are life-threatening challenges that endanger us all.

The program provides grants of up to $50,000 directly to local communities including indigenous people, community-based organizations and other non-governmental groups for projects in Biodiversity, Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, Land Degradation and Sustainable Forest Management, International Waters, and Chemicals.

NASA

NASA’s DEVELOP Program is a capacity-building initiative that empowers students and early-career professionals to use Earth-observing satellite data to address environmental and societal challenges around the world. Through short, applied research projects, participants gain hands-on experience in remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and science communication while producing decision-support tools for real communities.

The Bhutan Foundation partners with NASA DEVELOP to create these opportunities for Bhutanese students and researchers. Through this collaboration, Bhutanese participants have worked on projects ranging from wildlife habitat mapping to climate and land-use analysis relevant to Bhutan’s conservation priorities. The Foundation helps identify candidates, connect NASA teams with local stakeholders, and ensure that findings support Bhutan’s long-term goals in environmental stewardship, sustainable development, and climate resilience.
